What is Skin Rejuvenation?
Skin rejuvenation addresses three types of age related skin changes: color changes, texture changes and gravity changes. This can be done through a variety of non-surgical treatments, including Juvederm Dermal Filler, laser vein therapy and medical grade skin care products. To best take care of your skin you should utilize a combination of all of these services, botox, laser, facials and additional treatments. Dr. Walker can create a treatment plan for you during your consultaiton.
At The Plastic Surgery Center of Dallas, Dr. Rachel Walker and her staff are able to develop a treatment plan, tailored to each patient’s own needs and desires that optimizes the outcome while still incurring little to no downtime.

What Areas Can Be Addressed With Skin Rejuvenation?
Skin rejuvenation can be used on various areas, but it is predominantly applied to the facial skin, the decolletage, and the skin on the backs of the hands. These areas all feature thinner skin, and they respond well to the injection of dermal fillers and Botox, as well as collagen-building laser treatments.
Who Would Be an Ideal Candidate for Skin Rejuvenation Treatments?
Every year after we celebrate our 20th birthday, our bodies produce one additional percentage point less collagen. That means by the time we turn 45, our bodies are producing one quarter less collagen than in our youth. Since collagen provides the structural framework under our skin that keeps our skin firm and taut, this decline allows the skin to sag and form wrinkles and lines.
Basically, we’re all good candidates for these treatments at Dr. Walker’s, at least after we've had a few more birthdays on the calendar. The one exception would be patients who no longer have much elasticity in their facial skin. Surgical facelifts, brow lifts, and eyelid procedures would be more effective than a treatment such as Renuvion J Plasma. That’s because Dr. Walker can surgically remove excess sagging skin and bring the underlying support tissues back up to their former higher positions.
What Kinds of Skin Rejuvenation Treatments Do You Offer, and Where Do They Work?
On the backs of the hands, Dr. Walker uses Restylane Lyft, the only dermal filler that has received FDA approval for use on the hands. Lyft can effectively return volume to areas where the skin has thinned, and tendons and blood vessels have become more and more prominent.
On the decolletage, fractional laser skin resurfacing is an effective treatment to improve texture, reduce the appearance of areas with extra pigmentation from sun damage, and to build new collagen to firm and thicken the skin.
On the facial skin, Dr. Walker uses Botox on the upper third of the face to treat crow’s feet, the 11s between the brows, and forehead lines. She uses hyaluronic acid fillers from the Juvéderm and Restylane families of fillers to rejuvenate areas across the mid to lower face. The goal in these areas is to return volume that has been lost due to the body’s declining collagen production and sun damage. Fractional laser resurfacing and Renuvion plasma skin tightening are effective for combating the loosening of the skin that is a part of natural aging.
What Dermal Fillers Do You Offer?
Dr. Walker offers the entire Juvéderm and Restylane families of dermal fillers for her patients from across the Dallas area. These were the two original fillers, and each line has been expanded to address specific areas. For instance, Juvéderm Voluma is meant to return volume to sunken cheeks. Restylane Kysse and Silk are meant to add volume and definition to thin, shapeless lips. For smile lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth, Juvéderm and Juvéderm Vollure are great options, as are Restylane and Restylane Refyne.
Dr. Walker has experience and training with all of these fillers, and she can match the appropriate filler to your unique needs.
What Laser Skin Rejuvenation Treatments Does Dr. Walker Offer?
In our Laser and Aesthetic Center, we offer three awesome treatments that address a wide range of skin rejuvenation issues. All of these treatments are performed by our laser specialist, Paul Kraft.
- Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing — In fractional resurfacing, the laser energy creates thousands of microscopic punctures down through the epidermis into the dermis, the skin’s second layer. When the body senses heat in the dermis layer, it assumes a wound has occurred, so it initiates a wound-healing response. This involves remodeling the existing collagen in the treated areas, and, more importantly, triggers production of new collagen to “heal” the perceived wounds. This despite the fact that the actual microscopic punctures fully heal in just a couple of hours.
The beauty of fractional resurfacing is that it is so much less invasive and much more comfortable than ablative laser resurfacing. Because the laser energy only makes microscopic punctures surrounded by untouched skin, the improvements in texture, firmness, and overall rejuvenation are achieved without the discomfort or downtime.
- Laser Hair Removal — We all have areas with unwanted hair, but it’s so tedious to continually shave, wax, pluck, or apply harsh depilatory creams to get rid of it. When it seems we just finished plucking or waxing, a week or two later the hair comes right back. But laser hair removal with our GentleLASE Alexandrite laser removes the hair permanently. We set the GentleLASE laser wavelength to match the melanin in your hair. We then direct brief pulses of laser energy down onto the unwanted hairs. The melanin in the hair shafts absorbs the laser light energy and it instantly converts to heat. The heat travels down the hair shaft into the follicle where it is anchored, damaging or destroying the follicle and precluding it from growing hair in the future. Laser hair removal at our Laser and Aesthetic Center can achieve from 85-90 percent permanent hair reduction.
- Renuvion J Plasma — This exciting new treatment uses cold plasma energy to achieve impressive skin tightening. Renuvion combines helium gas with radiofrequency energy to create a precise stream of plasma energy. This J Plasma is delivered under the skin through a tiny entry incision that is so tiny it doesn’t require any sutures to close.
Renuvion is different from all other skin tightening treatments because it is the only treatment using this form of energy. When the J Plasma beam comes in contact with the undersurface of the skin it causes contraction and tightening that are unmatched by other current technologies such as ultrasound, RF in isolation, or laser energy. The plasma heats the undersurface, but at the same time the helium is much cooler than laser energy, making Renuvion a much safer alternative for skin tightening.
Can I Combine Different Skin Rejuvenation Treatments Together?
Dr. Walker’s patients often look to combine treatments into a single appointment, and skin rejuvenation is perfect for that. For instance, you could have Dr. Walker use Lyft to mask the elevated tendons on the backs of your hands combined with fractional laser resurfacing on your facial skin. You could have laser hair removal on your underarms or sideburns and have Dr. Walker inject Restylane Kysse to add shape to thinning lips. You could even combine Botox injections on your upper face with Juvéderm or Restylane injections around the mouth area.
