A periareolar breast lift is a modified approach to a mastopexy procedure. A mastopexy helps lift the position of the areola and nipple on your chest wall. The procedure takes around three hours to be completed. Surgeons utilize general anesthesia to optimize the patient’s comfort during the procedure.
Who Is a Candidate?
The best periareolar breast lift candidates are those who experience moderate breast sagging. If you’re unhappy with the way your breasts look, want to improve how you look and feel about your body, and have realistic expectations, then a periareolar breast lift is the perfect solution for you.
The Procedure
The periareolar breast lift was introduced by Dr. Louis Benelli in 1990s. Also referred to as the Benelli lift, this lift technique demands fewer incisions than the anchor breast lift procedure and isn’t as invasive.
Using the periareolar method, your surgeon will create a circle around the border of your areola and create a larger circle around that circle, placing the top of it at the point where your areola will be raised. He will remove the skin in between these two marked circles.
With the help of a purse-string suture, he will close the gap between the outer and inner circles, which will help tighten the skin and uplift the position of the nipple and areola.
If patients are interested in receiving a breast augmentation along with their Benelli breast lift, these can be performed together. This will result in breasts with increased volume and lift.
Recovery After Periareolar Breast Lift
The periareolar breast lift’s healing process is quick with a short recovery time. It is generally undertaken on an outpatient basis, which means that you’ll be able to go home shortly after the procedure is finished.
After the completion of the breast lift procedure, the surgeon will wrap your breasts in dressings and secure them with an elastic band. Experiencing some amount of swelling, bruising, and general discomfort is normal after the surgery. During recovery, you’ll be wearing a post-surgical bra to reduce swelling.
It’s important to remember not to take on too much strain during your recovery period. Strain can lengthen the amount of time it takes for you to feel 100%. You’ll need to remember to follow your doctor’s orders to take it easy and relax as much as possible so that you’ll be able to take on whatever comes your way in no time at all.
Your surgeon will provide some advice to help optimize your recovery time and may prescribe pain medication to make you feel comfortable until the pain subsides.
